MAYFIELD: The Mayfield Labour Party hope to organise a public meeting to discuss the question of providing telephone kiosks in the Mayfield area. A request by the Labour Party for kiosks was turned down recently on the grounds that vandalism was preventing the provision of kiosks.


DALKEITH: More than 100 day workers at Laidlaw and Fairgrieve’s Dalkeith, are out on strike for more pay, after mill workers walked out last Friday. They are demanding the Government’s £4.40 threshold agreement be frozen due to the factory’s recent short time working week.


MIDLOTHIAN: A £5.5m development plan to improve leisure provision throughout Midlothian has been unveiled this week by the district council. When the council meets today members will be asked to approve proposals for the construction of new community leisure centres in Bonnyrigg, Loanhead and Penicuik.
