NEWTONGRANGE: This is to be the last winter that children at Newtongrange Primary will have to endure conditions at the school’s outside toilets. As part of extensive improvements to be made to the school next year, new toilets will be installed beside the school building, with the entrance from within the school.
PENICUIK: Lothian Region Education Committee has recommended that three new primary schools be built in Midlothian, but plans to build a new £3.5 million secondary are running into difficulties. The council plans to build a combined secondary school and community complex on a 22-acre site at Beeslack. Part of the site is subject to a public inquiry.
DANDERHALL: Danderhall is to get a new £150,000 medical centre. Work on construction is expected to begin in April with the completion date estimated to be around December 1991. The centre, to be built on Newton Road, has been the focus of a long campaign locally.
