BONNYRIGG: Peter Burns, son of 1928 and 1932 Olympic swimmer Willie Burns, has been co-opted to Bonnyrigg and Lasswade Town Council. Mr Burns (35) is a manager of a bottling plant.


LOANHEAD: A new £2.1 million leisure centre is to be built by Midlothian District Council in Loanhead. The long-awaited centre with swimming pool was formally approved on Tuesday and is earmarked for King George V Park near the town centre. Work is expected to begin early next year.


PENICUIK: Fears have been voiced over the future of the John Chant Centre, Penicuik, as Midlothian Council undertakes a review of services for adults with learning difficulties.
