The centre on Newmills Road is home to a growing number of practitioners who provide support for mental health and wellbeing.

One of the owners, Emma Ducklin, has been running her clinical psychology practice for three years, but had struggled to find suitable premises, so she teamed up with social worker and entrepreneur Alison Vikis.

Together they renovated their new premises and opened the centre.

Emma said: “It’s now more important than ever that people have somewhere local to go for support with their mental health.

"Since Mysa has opened its doors, people in Midlothian don’t have to travel outside of the area, and can access services on their doorstep.

"Many therapists and clients have told us that the centre is a lovely and welcoming space, which is exactly what we wanted to create.”

The centre opened in September and was closed from December 26, but has re-opened as it is classed as an essential service for the mental health therapies provided.

Alison added: “When we started talking about opening a therapy centre in Midlothian, we had no idea that the pandemic was going to hit and close so many businesses. But as a mental health service, we are one of the few allowed to stay open.

"Although it’s a really tough time to start a business, we’re so glad that Mysa exists to provide a safe and accessible space for people to access support.”
