999 centre ‘among best in the country’

THE police call centre at Bilston Glen has continued to hit national targets for answering 999 calls, according to a report.

The centre answered 96 per cent of the 30,114 emergency calls received between April and June within ten seconds.

The means the £10.4 million facility exceeded its target of 90 per cent.

In a report to the police board, Chief Constable David Strang said the centre’s performance “continued to be amongst the best in the country”.

The police figures showed 98 per cent of non-emergency calls to the Force Communication Centre switchboard were answered in the target of 40 seconds during the same period. In June the proportion of non-emergency calls answered on target dropped to 97 per cent.
