CONTRACTORS for the Glencorse Water Treatment Works have won an award for outstanding community relations.
Black and Veatch Ltd secured a National Gold Award from the Considerate Constructors Scheme.
Highlights included the way in which neighbouring residences and farms were contacted prior to the start to provide full information on the project.
Regular open meetings for the community were also held and regular updates given via website.
Due respect was also paid to protecting local places of interest and items of historical importance, while huge efforts went into preventing any pollution or contamination of the area.
Works were landscaped over at completion, leaving no evidence of disturbance.
An end-of-project ceilidh for all staff and neighbours, together with the donation of a site cabin for local hill walkers and materials to make a school play park, rounded off the community relations programme.
The annual awards recognise the highest levels of consideration and care shown by construction sites throughout the UK towards their local neighbourhood, the general public, site staff and the environment.
