Aldi has announced plans to open its first store in Midlothian, creating more than 30 in-house jobs and many more in construction.

The move, exclusively revealed by the Advertiser, has seen the discount supermarket chain form a legal partnership with Mayshade Garden Centre in Dalkeith.

If approved by Midlothian planners, the deal will lead to Aldi modernising the Mayshade site, which lies between Dalkeith and Bonnyrigg, just yards from a Tesco superstore at Hardengreen and one kilometre from the new Morrisons store at Eskbank Road.
