Andy Murray proposes to Kim Sears

The former Wimbledon Champion and British number one is understood to have finally asked Ms Sears to marry him last week, ahead of a holiday to the Philippines.

The pair have been together for nine years after meeting at the US Open in 2005 and Murray had previously joked on Twitter about getting engaged.

He was congratulated on social media by staff at the Cromlix Hotel in Dunblane - and while his mum Judy Murray stayed silent, she retweeted a message from Judy the Penguin, which read: “There was me thinking if it all fell through with @MontyThePenguin then the was still @andy_murray to waddle down the aisle with me....”
