Anger overNHS accounts

A SENIOR health chief has blasted NHS Lothian’s finance department for failing to publish its figures on time.

The health board’s vice-chairman, Eddie Egan, said it was unacceptable that the organisation’s board was relying on figures that were two months out of date.

He said red tape meant there was a situation whereby all senior members of staff had access to the statistics, but they were not published formally. Given the £50 million budget cut NHS Lothian faces this year, Mr Egan said, it was important that timely data was available.
