Animal magic at Dalkeith Show

A new era blossomed for Dalkeith Agricultural Society at the weekend – thanks to a sunshine splash of animal magic.

The organisation’s annual show at Dalkeith Country Park received great support from the farming community and spectators poured through the gate to see the best of livestock at the annual Dalkeith Show.

Hundreds packed the Duke of Buccleuch’s estate to enjoy Midlothian’s celebration of rural life and appreciate the skills of those involved in animal husbandry.

The switch to a split presentation worked well, with the main ring in Lawn Field having the added bonus of the palace as a stunning backdrop.

As farmers presented immaculate sheep, cattle and horses in the pens and show rings, rural groups and children were given the opportunity to exhibit baking and handicraft skills.

Equestrian competition was keenly contested in nearby Steele Park.
