A renowned professor who worked in Penicuik for 36 years was awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours.
Professor Willie Donachie, former managing director of Moredun Scientific at Pentlands Science Park, was awarded for services to animal and veterinary biosciences. He said: “I am delighted to have received this honour which I accept in recognition not only of my own contribution but also for the whole Moredun Family which gave me unparalleled support during the many years I spent there.”
Professor Donachie’s research on bacterial respiratory diseases of livestock led to the development of highly successful commercial vaccines to help protect livestock against infection.
Following his retirement from Moredun, he is still actively involved in promoting Scottish veterinary and biosciences through his role as secretary of the Scottish Consortium for Rural Research.
