Does eating out in Midlothian tickle your tastebuds? Do you enjoy relaxing in the local cafes or pubs? If so, your services are in demand.

The organisers of the annual Midlothian Food and Drink Awards are seeking mystery judges to rate the shortlisted entrants.

Competition chairman Gordon Hodgson said: “We are looking for two couples. One couple to visit the three finalists in lunch category and one couple to visit the three finalists in the dinner category.

“In each case they will have a meal without letting the business know that they are monitoring or judging and after each visit they fill in the scoring forms covering all aspects of the food and the service. Midlothian Food and Drink will reimburse the cost of the meals.

“They must be able to visit all three businesses over a fortnight long period and as a couple on each occasion. They should have no connection to any of the restaurants shortlisted.”

To enter they should outline in around 250 words how they would identify good food and good service and also what their favourite meal would be.

They should also say whether they would prefer to judge lunch or dinner.

Entries to be sent by email to Gordon at or by post to Midlothian Food and Drink, Midlothian Council, Midlothian House, Buccleuch Street, Dalkeith, EH22 1DN. All entries should be received by Friday, April 3.

Voting closes on April 24 with the awards ceremony taking place on June 4.
