A Penicuik-born author now living in England has released his fifth book, about a fictional town based on the place he was born and bred.
The Auchencookie Chronicles by Allan Neil (78) comes with its own mini dictionary to translate some of the language used in the town.
The book takes a whimsical peep at the lifestyles and adventures of the town’s citizens ranging from the notorious ‘McGurk’ family through the ‘Polis’ to a brief look at how some of the seniors react to a royal visitor.
The retired policeman, now living in Sussex, said: “I was born and brought up in Penicuik and I had a collection of humorous anecdotes from my time there, so I changed the names and stuck the stories in this book.
“It’s a humorous collection of little stories about the characters from Penicuik. Everything I have written is about the area really.
“I’m quite happy with it, it’s taken me a few years to do it, doing a bit at a time. When something came to me I would start the computer up and hammer away.”
The Aunchencookie Chronicles is £4.95 in paperback and free in Kindle format, at www.amazon.co.uk/Auchencookie-Chronicles-Allan-Neil/dp/1542481856.
