Penicuik Athletic finally ended their recent losing streak with a hard earned victory at St Andrews to return home with all three points.
The home side came close in the 18th minute but Bejaoui was alert to turn away a powerful strike and Lister cleared. In the 22nd minute home keeper Clarkson was beaten by a corner but the ball hit the bar.
One minute later however and Penicuik took the lead when Darrell Young headed down a Jancyzk free kick and Aaron Somerville pounced to slide the ball home.
In the 40th minute David Liddell , ex-Dalkeith Thistle, came close with a glancing header for Penicuik.
In the 51st minute, United’s Sibanda broke free from the Penicuik defence, but David White recovered well to save the day. Three minutes later it was Murdoch who came to the rescue for the home side to clear the ball from a corner and deny McCallum. From the resultant flag kick keeper Clarkson pulled off two great saves before the danger was cleared. Immediately afterwards, Somerville’s glancing header was well saved by Clarkson. Then the St Andrews fans sighed with relief when a header off a Penicuik corner beat the keeper, but was cleared off the line.
However, somewhat against the run of play, the home side equalised in the 65th minute when Wedderburn headed home a deep corner kick to make it 1-1.
But Penicuik bounced back in the 82nd minute when David White was on hand to knock the ball home from close range to edge Penicuik 2-1 ahead.
Yet into injury time and St Andrews almost got the equaliser. The ball was bouncing about loose in the Penicuik penalty box and only desperate defending by Penicuik prevented the goal but the points were safe in the end.
