Backlash over Midlothian Council recycling cutbacks

The slashing of opening hours at Stobhill and Penicuik recycling centres has been met with a storm of protest on Facebook.

Current opening times are 10am-6pm seven days a week throughout the summer, and 10am-4pm from October until the end of March.

As of Monday (May 5), they will be open from 9.30am-4.15pm all year round.

Advertiser readers were quick to vent their fury on our social media page.

Joanne Smyth posted: “It will now be a nightmare for people who work full time inc weekends, it was a push to get here for 6 during the week, 4.15pm – no chance.”

Christopher Arkle wrote: “More small cutbacks which will really affect the general public when they could get rid of high salary “executives” instead and save a fortune!”
