Bid to tackle doorstep sales

Edinburgh North and Leith MP Mark Lazarowicz MP is backing a new Office of Fair Trading campaign to make people aware of their legal rights in dealing with doorstep sellers.

He said there had been 840 complaints about uninvited callers across Scotland last year, and that the problem was worse in the summer months with rogue traders preying on groups who live alone, such as the elderly.

Mr Lazarowicz said: “Although doorstep sellers can be perfectly genuine, unfortunately some are bogus and use pressure to sell to unsuspecting and often vulnerable people in their homes.

“It’s important that everyone is aware of their rights when it comes to suspect doorstep approaches.

“No-one should feel pressured into making a decision to buy goods or services.”
