A Bonnyrigg man has been sentenced to nine months in prison for fraudulently obtaining Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, Income Support and Carers Allowance.
The conviction for benefit fraud follows an investigation by Midlothian Council and the Department for Work and Pensions.
Douglas Jack (51) of 10 Royal Scots Place, pleaded guilty to two out of three counts of benefit fraud at Edinburgh Sheriff Court and was sentenced on March 6.
Jack had claimed benefit alleging that he was not working whereas he was in employment.
In total he claimed benefit in excess of £40,717.58 that he was not entitled to.
