A Bonnyrigg taxi driver who knocked down and killed a 74-year old pedestrian on a Zebra crossing, has been handed a 40-month driving ban.

Clark Munro (46) of Quarryfoot Green, was also ordered to do 240 hours unpaid work after pleading guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on July 1.

He admitted causing the death of Ian McCance on January 26 last year by driving without due care and attention on Marchmont Road, Edinburgh, and failing to observe Mr McCance on a Zebra crossing.

Sentence was deferred until August 1 for background reports.

Mr McCance, an accountant, was returning home after “addressing the haggis” at a Burns’ Supper and was halfway over the crossing when he was struck by the cab at around 3am.
