A BONNYRIGG woman is dedicating herself to caring for mistreated dogs on a Greek island.
Pamela Elliot (34), moved to the Aegean island of Syros 10-months ago after winding down her Midlothian-based dog walking business.
In the midst of the human suffering after the near-collapse of the Greek economy, she is caring for some of the collateral victims – the pets abandoned by those who can barely manage to feed themselves and their families.
The volume of stray and mistreated dogs has reached crisis proportions since thousands of people lost their jobs or saw wages slashed.
Pamela, a former receptionist, customer service and retail worker, meant to stay for just six months but has remained, taking more responsibility at the shelter, including fundraising, recruiting more volunteers and re-homing the dogs.
