Saturday’s 4-3 victory over Fauldhouse saw Bonnyrigg stretch their unbeaten run to 16 games , and took them back to the top of the Super League.
After storming into an early 3-0 lead the match turned when Bonnyrigg were reduced to 10 men and Fauldhouse completed an amazing recovery from 3-0 down to 3-3. But the Rose dug deep to net a superb winner from captain hero Ross Archibald.
Bonnyrigg netted their opening goal in their first attack in the first minute of the game when a right wing cross from Ross Archibald found Jon Stewart in the United penalty area and he hammered the ball into the visitors’ net via the crossbar.
On seven minutes it was 2-0 to the Rose as a cool finish by Kieran McGachie finished off another Rose right wing raid as next McGachie saw another shot well saved by the busy United keeper.
On 18 minutes it was 3-0 to the Rose when a deflected Lewis Turner shot found Fraser McLaren and he made no mistake finding the Fauldhouse net.
But then in the 19th minute a foul by Dean Hoskins on Ryan Stewart saw referee Mike Taylor point to the penalty spot and Mike Brown for Fauldhouse slotted home the resultant spot kick, though Andrews did get a hand to it.
Four goals and full of drama in the opening quarter of the game as things then settled down a bit before in 27 minutes a deflected Archibald shot came to McGachie whose shot hit the post and was scrambled clear. The woodwork again saved Fauldhouse when a deflected Lewis Turner shot hit the United crossbar leaving Rose 3-1 up at the break.
On 57 minutes a straight red card for an alleged elbow led jump on Sam Watson saw Fraser McLaren sent off as the game turned on its head.
Three minutes later with Fauldhouse chasing the game against 10 man Bonnyrigg a fumble by keeper Michael Andrews fell to Jason Deans and he netted the second Fauldhouse goal as the match turned around in favour of the visitors.
Bonnyrigg still counterattacked but a tough tackiling United defence held sway before remarkably in the 70th minute it was 3-3 when a free kick against Donaldson swung in by Stewart saw unmarked at the far post Jason Deans head home a stunning equaliser.
Play swung from end to end as United now chased a winner but instead it came at the other end in 82 minutes when substitute Scott Gray sent in an inch perfect cross to Ross Archibald who stormed the ball into the Fauldhouse net for a champagne moment for the Rose fans.
The nail-biting closing minutes saw Bonnyrigg deny feisty Fauldhouse with the Rose reward sitting on top of the Super League table.
