Bruce asked to lend weight to substance call

Council chief executive Sue Bruce has been asked to put pressure on the group responsible for Edinburgh’s alcohol and drugs strategy to allow for politicians to be involved.

The Edinburgh Alcohol and Drug Partnership currently includes council officials, but not councillors.

Peter Gabbitas, director of health and social care, has been unsuccessfully calling for councillors to get a place for some time. Now city leaders have asked Mrs Bruce to take up the cause on their behalf.

Councillor Marilyne MacLaren said: “The justification about not having politicians is a load of codswallop.”
