Fears over a Dalkeith building forced police to close the High Street for several hours.
The Advertiser understands a man walking past the Blossom Garden Restaurant and Takeaway, on the corner of Buccleuch Street last Thursday, saw a large crack appear up the side of the building and alerted nearby police officers.
Midlothian Council had said the damage was caused by loose render, which had cracked due to the freezing weather conditions. But the manager of the eatery, Bobbie Leung, believes the return of milder temperatures caused a water pipe in the flat upstairs to burst. There were no customers or staff in the restaurant at the time.
