Bus passenger spat on driver

A BUS passenger spat on a driver because he thought he was being disrespectful to his partner.

Shane Hanson, of Albert Street, Leith, admitted assaulting driver Shine Varghese on January 20 during a hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court
yesterday.

Fiscal depute Sarah O’Gallagher said Hanson had been a passenger and as he made his way to the front of the bus to disembark in Princes Street, Mr Varghese thanked him for travelling. Hanson then turned and spat on Mr Varghese’s left hand.

He then walked off, but the police were contacted and he was identified and arrested.

Hanson, 27, was ordered to pay his victim £200 in compensation. His defence lawyer said his client accepted it was a “moment of madness”.
