Businesses face an eight per cent rise in council waste collection charges.
At a meeting of Midlothian Council last week, councillors agreed to increase charges to trade customers.
The move is to cover increased costs of collecting and disposing of commercial waste, including tipping fees and vehicle running costs. Landfill Tax is set to increase by £8 per year until it reaches £80 a tonne in 2014/2015.
The council is also under pressure to meet a Scottish Government recycling target of 70 per cent by 2025.
Councillor Wilma Chalmers (Lab) told the meeting that the charges were still “below average” compared to neighbouring local authorities.
The increased charges will begin on April 1.
