No enquiries made to frack in Midlothian

Midlothian Council has refused to give an outright view on the controversial fracking debate, adding that there have been no enquiries to drill in the county as yet.

The UK government recently announced the first bidding round for fracking licences in six years, with former mining areas among those likely to be considered.

But a spokesman for Midlothian Council said: “As yet, we are not aware of any enquiries from onshore gas extraction companies relating to the Midlothian area, however, such an activity would require planning permission from the council as the local planning authority.”
