Jobs, tourism and local business could all benefit if plans for the new £40 million Pentland Studios project go ahead.
Council Leader Owen Thompson (SNP) said: “The film studio could be a major inward investment opportunity not just for Midlothian but for Scotland.”
Gordon Henderson, the senior development manager (Scotland) with the Federation of Small Businesses, told the Advertiser: “I think it will be great. If handled properly there is a real potential for spin-off business.”
Damhead Community Council chairman Constance Newbould said there were concerns at the potential loss of agricultural land for part of the development.
