The controversial drilling technique known as ‘fracking’ has been provoking fierce debate in Midlothian since a government report highlighted Midlothian as suitable for the 

The Department for Energy and Climate Change’s assessment report for onshore oil and gas published in December recommends Scotland’s central belt as a potential site for shale gas extraction, commonly known as fracking.

The report adds that former mining areas could be prime locations for the energy source.

Fracking involves drilling and injecting fluid into the ground at high pressure to fracture shale rocks to release natural gas inside.

Midlothian North MSP Colin Beattie recently told the Advertiser of his fears about fracking coming to the county, citing safety and the environmental impact as his main concerns.

So we decided to speak to those for and against the controversial energy source to discover what it could bring to Midlothian if introduced here.
