Call for local help to show festive spirit
A charity is calling on local tradesmen to help spruce up a house it runs for people with learning needs to mark the home's 30th anniversary.
Link Living is responsible for Dougall Court in Mayfield, providing accommodation with support for five people who have learning disabilities.
The charity is appealing to local businesses and tradespeople to donate materials and time to help make the facility the best it can be.
Paul White, of Link Living, said: “I suppose what it needs is a freshening up and there is a fair bit of wear and tear. The main things that need done are decorating, such as a coat of paint and wallpaper, and some fresh carpeting.
“We just want it looking the best it possibly can be when we celebrate our 30th anniversary next year.
“I know businesses are all hard pressed just now so we are not looking for anybody to do much, but many hands make light work. I think it will make a big difference.”
Paul would like to see work begin soon on the house, in which one of the residents has lived in since it opened.
He added: “Social care is the type of business always under financial pressure to get resources to look after people and it’s difficult to get resources to provide the icing on top of the cake like this.
“Although the residents get support from Link Living to live in the community like anyone else, we want the best possible environment for them to live in. One of them has a big passion for Marvel Comics, so it would be nice to have that theme in his bedroom.
“We would like to start work this side of the calendar year. It depends on what people can do but we are ready to welcome them. Hopefully we can see real Christmas spirit in action.”
