Campaigners vow to fight cuts to services

A campaign group that opposed privatisation of council services has vowed to continue to fight against cuts to in-house services.

Councillors rejected proposals to outsource three different batches of services, including bin men, street cleaners, porters, janitors, school meals, payroll and HR, in order to look to find savings within the services instead.

East Edinburgh Save our Services and Greater Leith Against the Cuts campaigned against all three proposals but has now vowed to keep up its opposition to cuts.

In a joint statement, the groups said: “By choosing to keep the services in the public sector, councillors have also kept them under democratic control, and we believe that most people will welcome the decision.

“Although we are pleased, there are still plans to impose cuts on these services, which we will campaign against.”

The groups will hold a public meeting on January 28 at 1pm in the Royal High School Primary.
