Green-fingered volunteers are wanted to help prepare a Penicuik gardening project for the new season.

The Lost Garden of Penicuik is holding its Long Lost Weekend from tomorrow (Friday, April 25) to Monday, April 28 from 10am-4pm each day.

Volunteers will be asked to help Penicuik Community Development Trust to prepare plots for planting as well as carry out some site maintenance. The Lost Garden is on the Penicuik Estate.

Project convenor Florence Kennedy said: “The most important thing is to get the potatoes in. We have got quite a large plot and there are different varieties which need to be planted. That is quite urgent.”

Fruit cages, funded by the Royal Horticultural Society of Scotland, will need to be sited and branches fed into a wood chipper, which has been hired for the weekend.

Volunteers are asked to dress accordingly. Tools will be provided.

Those interested in joining in the work can just turn up. Park at the estate car park and walk through to the Lost Garden area.
