Owner Norman Maver, 58, said he was waiting to see if the boat, which he believes has
suffered damage, can be repaired.

He said: “The police rang me up and said they had good news for me that they had my canoe back. Apparently it’s been damaged and they don’t know if it’s repairable yet.

“It’s a really tough, robust old canoe. It survived 30 years so I’m hoping it’s not too badly damaged. Unless an axe has been taken to it then I hope it would survive something like sledging.”

A police spokesman said: “A 16-year-old male has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged theft of a canoe from Morven Street on Monday, January 21.

“He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. The canoe has been recovered and will be returned to its owner.”
