Midlothian’s oldest and largest festival begins tomorrow (Friday) in Loanhead with the colourful spectacle of the carnival parade.
Judging will take place on Fountain Green from 6.30 pm. The parade, accompanied by eight bands, will move off at 7.30 pm from Church Street and proceed around the town.
A popular feature of the carnival in recent years has been the motorised section which precedes the main body of the procession.
This section will feature a Harley Davidson motorcycle group, Lotus owners’ group, preserved military vehicles and various vintage and classic cars.
The vehicles in this section can be viewed in Muirfield Gardens prior to the parade moving off. Owners of preserved vehicles are welcome to join in and should arrive for 6.45 pm.
Sunday, June 19 sees two events. The first is the family fun run. Participants should enrol from 10.30am in the Memorial Park and the run starts at 11am.
Entry is free and all entrants will receive a medal.
The second is the Open Pairs Bowling tournament which takes place on Loanhead Miners’ Bowling Green throughout the day.
A new event this year is the novelty dog show on Monday, June 20 on Fountain Green from 6.30pm. Come along with your dog(s) and take part. There is free entry to all classes.
A jumble football competition for primary school pupils will be staged on Tuesday, June 21 in the Memorial Park at 6.30 pm. All boys and girls up to P7 can enter and teams will be selected on the night.
The Queen Elect Chiara Morelli will open the fairground in the Memorial Park on Wednesday, June 22 at 6pm.
Events that evening continue with a Promenade Concert on Fountain Green at 7pm. This free event features Midlothian Community Concert Band, Loanhead Brass Roots and Beeslack High School Samba Band.
