Cash brings cold comfort to Midlothian residents

Homes in Bonnyrigg and Dalkeith are to benefit from energy efficiency funding.

Over the next year, Midlothian Council will receive £450,000 from the Scottish Government’s Universal Home Insulation Scheme.

The £12.5 million scheme offers a range of free home insultation measures to improve energy efficiency and reduce fuel poverty.

Scottish Housing Minister Alex Neil said: “With the onset of winter just round the corner, now more than ever, we need to offer support and immediate assistance to those most in need to help them heat their homes.

“That is why, through this scheme, we are injecting millions of pounds in our fight to help stamp out fuel poverty.”

Housing spokesman Councillor Jim Muirhead (Lab) said: “Installing insulation at home can help people reduce their energy bills and save money. This is particularly important with winter on the horizon.”
