Celebrations as Sadie turns 100 years old

The youngest of five children, Sadie was born in Pollokshaws, Glasgow, on March 28. On the death of her mother, Sadie was three when she went to England to be cared for by an aunt.

She returned to Glasgow some years later when her father remarried.

As a young woman she came to live in Rosewell and worked with The Daughters of Charity at St Joseph’s Hospital where she cared 
for children with special needs.

Friend Maureen Quinn said: “She loved her work and over the years Sadie has made and retained many good friends all over the world. She still keeps in touch with them.”

With the support of good friends and a care team, Sadie is semi-independent in her own home. She is in weekly contact with family and friends in Canada.

Maureen added: “Her great passion in life has been Celtic and she still follows them. She visited Celtic Park for her 90th birthday and met many of the players.”

A woman of great faith, Sadie met Pope John Paul II on his visit to St Joseph’s.

“She is an immensely generous woman and very kind and thoughtful to everyone. She is so interesting to talk to and is always interested in people’s lives and their families. This keeps her young at heart,” said Maureen.
