Centralisation adding to traffic problem in Dalkeith

Midlothian Council efforts to centralise its staff in Dalkeith are further exacerbating the problems with parking in the town.

That was an overriding concern of councillors who met last week to discuss the second phase of the council’s Effective Working in Midlothian programme.

A report put to members described how social work staff moving from Loanhead to Dalkeith had “created further strain on the existing parking allocation” in the town.

But it also identified Midlothian House, the council headquarters based in central Dalkeith, as being “the most suitable location” to consolidate further staff relocation from area offices at Jarnac Court, Buccleuch House, Fairfield House, Eskdaill Court, 76 High Street and Dundas.
