The former Kabin in Loanhead has reponed, with the new management keen to give the controversy-hit community centre a fresh start.

Now known as The Link, it is run by LASC Childcare Services, which took over in December following the dissolution of its previous operators, Loanhead Community Learning Association.

Irene Hogg MBE, CEO of LASC Childcare Services, said:“Our aim is to bring people together and build strong relationships in and across communities. The Link will create opportunities for intergenerational activities and youth projects, as well as spaces for children and their families to form close relationships with each other and strengthen community cohesion.

“We will improve the places and spaces that matter to communities, by expanding and improving the building, making it fit for many purposes, and ensuring that it is open and welcoming at times when the community needs it.”

In order to make The Link fit for a multitude of uses, the building is in need of some refurbishment, repair and alteration. Irene and her staff are appealing to the local community to support a DIY SOS-style appeal. She said: “We have been delighted with the support that we have had so far and want to say a big thank you.

“We have applied for ‘Awards for All’ funding to support a programme of minor refurbishment and capital works. We would like to enlarge some small internal rooms and improve visibility and safety in the reception area.

“To create a space for dance and performance activities, celebrations, parties and meetings/conferences we need to expand the internal hall. Any help and support would be gratefully received.”

The Link is for everyone, for all generations to meet, share experiences and spend time together. The Link Café will reopen to welcome visitors and groups alike. The soft play centre will be available during the week and on Saturdays but can also be booked for parties on Sundays.
