The recently appointed Newbattle High School kitchen supervisor, Elaine O’Connor, is planning to widen the menu there to include healthy pasta dishes such as chicken with mixed peppers, a variety of soups and more baguette choices. The good news for pupils is they’ll get to have a say in the changes. She said: “I want to do different tasting sessions with the pupils to make sure they are enthusiastic about new choices. We want more pupils to choose to stay in at lunchtimes and eat a healthy, tasty meal.”
Elaine, who lives in Dalkeith, joined Newbattle from Edinburgh Leisure where she catered for many high profile events at the Royal Commonwealth Pool. She also spent 20 years at Jewel and Esk College.
