Check in at chess club in Loanhead

New members are being invited to join the Pentland Hills Chess Club which resumes its weekly meetings on Tuesday.

The club meets in Loanhead Miners’ Welfare Club, The Loan, Loanhead, from 7.30pm.

From October, the club will also have at least two teams competing in the Edinburgh Chess League. With just a few more members, the club could run a third team in Division 3 of the Edinburgh Chess League.

Last season the club also competed in the Edinburgh Allegro Chess League and in the Scottish National Chess League. The club runs two internal club competitions from October until May and members can enter one of these. This is a good way to get a chess grade for those who want one.

On September 13 the current club champion, Mike Thompson, will play all those present simultaneously. The club is offering chess training in the early part of the season. Existing members are of a wide range of chess abilities.
