City cop facing drink drive crash charge

The off-duty Pc was spotted driving erratically by other officers on November 13.

He is alleged to have sped off, leading to a chase which saw him crash into a number of other vehicles before abandoning his car.

Today, Lothian and Borders Police confirmed that a 27-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident, which took place in Kaimes Road, Corstorphine.

The Pc, who has served with Lothian and Borders Police for a couple of years, has not been suspended from his post, but he has been put on restricted duties.

He is due to appear in court and to face a police misconduct hearing.

A Lothian and Borders spokeswoman said today: “A 27-year-old man has been charged with a number of road traffic offences in Kaimes Road, on Sunday, November 13.

“A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal and he is due to appear in court at a later date.”

It is not the first time an Edinburgh police officer has come under scrutiny.

Father-of-three Martin Douglas, 41, from Niddrie, died after being hit by an off-duty police officer driving a black Toyota in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

The 25-year-old officer was later charged in connection with the crash and a report sent to the procurator fiscal’s office, but those charges were dropped in April.

An investigation into the handling of the hit-and- run accident by Lothian and Borders is currently under way by Central Scotland Police.
