Danderhall Library has laid down a challenge to the local community to empty its shelves by borrowing as many of its 10,000 books as possible.
The unique challenge is part of Midlothian-wide celebrations for Love your Library Day, which takes place on Saturday.
Danderhall Library, which is normally closed on Saturdays, will be open specially for the occasion from 10am to 3pm. They’ll have loads of fun activities throughout the day, including live music, book sculpture, a coffee morning and children’s crafts in the afternoon.
Councillor Peter Boyes, cabinet member responsible for libraries, explained: “This is a really fun way for the community in Danderhall to show how much they love their local library. We estimate it will take 284 children, 28 teenagers and 303 adults to borrow their full entitlement to succeed in emptying the shelves.
“We’ve also arranged plenty of activities to make the challenge as enjoyable as possible – people can listen to live music from local musicians while they browse for books. We’ll also have arts and crafts for the kids and a special book sculpture workshop in the afternoon.”
