The helicopter which crashed into the roof of the Clutha bar, killing nine people, was flying above Dalkeith less than an hour before, it has emerged.
Analysis of the wreakage has given no clue as to why the helicopter dropped from the sky on November 29.
The pilot and two passengers were among those killed in the Glasgow pub tragedy. News that the helicopter had just been above Midlothian has been met with shock locally.
MSP Colin Beattie (SNP) said: “I had no idea it was in the vicinity. Thank goodness for the sake of Dalkeith that there was no mechanical failure at that point.
“While I am grateful my own community was spared, the tragedy in Glasgow shocked us all and our hearts go out to relatives and friends of those affected.”
