Comedians raise £1300 to tackle homelessness at charity event

Shelter Scotland held the fundraiser at the Edinburgh Fringe to help support its homelessness and housing campaigns.

Performers included former Perrier Award winner, Daniel Kitson, as well as Josie Long and Robert Ince.

Many audience members gained entry by sending their favourite jokes via social networking site Twitter during Shelter Scotland’s month-long “LOLfest” online campaign.

The winning joke, submitted by Ezmie McCutcheon, was: “What did the cheese say to itself in the mirror? Ha-llou-mi”.

Graeme Brown, director of Shelter Scotland, said: “Increasing numbers of households facing daily problems with housing and homelessness is no joke; this comedy event however was the perfect antidote.

“We had some fantastic entries during the LOLfest campaign on Twitter and Ezmie McCutcheon’s joke was a crowd favourite and worthy winner on the night.”

Comedian Josie Long said: “Shelter Scotland’s work makes a real difference to the lives of people experiencing housing and homelessness issues and I was pleased to be able to do my bit.

“This has been one of my Festival highlights.”
