COMEDY

AFTER a two-year hiatus, one of the Fringe’s best double acts (comedian Sammy J and puppeteer extraordinaire Heath McIvor) have teamed up again to bring us a production featuring the oddest of odd couples.

A struggling tax lawyer, Aussie Sammy J unearths a multi-million-dollar fraud, and with it the chance to finally get a much longed-for promotion.

Unfortunately, the only problem is that best friend and housemate – a purple, potty-mouthed puppet named Randy – might be one of the guilty parties.

On paper, tax evasion and divided loyalties might not sound like the most comical of premises, but don’t worry; come the end of the show, your face will hurt from laughing so much.

Some of the many highlights of their weird and wonderful world include an incredibly complex hybrid board game, an audio cookbook narrated by Barack Obama and a highly-amusing black-and white courtroom scene.

Sammy J’s performance is perfectly pitched, while McIvor’s skill for coaxing the most amazingly expressive reactions out of an inanimate object is breathtaking.

Together, they combine slapstick, clever wordplay and some hilarious musical interludes, not to mention some razor-sharp improvisation, to make this one of the funniest shows you’re likely to see this year.

Run ends August 29
