Mayfield and Easthouses families, individuals or groups that are struggling financially can apply for support from a special fund.
The Community Chest contains £30,000, funding by the Scottish Government and Midlothian Council, and was set up to tackle deprivation in Mayfield and Easthouses.
Any local group working with families and their members in the community can apply. The community will vote on the successful projects at an event in Mayfield Church Hall on Saturday, May 21. The deadline for applications is May 11.
A council spokesman said: “The steering group, comprising community-based workers and community activists, is really excited about the event. They believe that the Mayfield and Easthouses Community Chest will enable direct financial support to local groups and the people they work with.
“People can come and speak to someone at a drop-in at Mayfield Library or Lawfield Primary School. The application form is simple to complete and it’s important to note the fact that in addition to local groups receiving grants, it will be local people who decide who gets the grants.”
