CCTV cameras have had to be brought in from other parts of Midlothian to replace broken cameras in Penicuik.
Three of the five cameras in the town centre were faulty and are now being repaired by Midlothian Council.
After hearing of faults, the Advertiser spoke to local businesses. At the time, the camera at the top of Lamb’s Pend was missing.
Graham Hogg of Hogg’s Cafe in Lamb’s Pend said he had suffered two break-ins and three broken windows since taking over the cafe more than two years ago.
Calling for more police presence in the area, Mr Hogg added: “People think I’m insured and it’s alright. I have a young family to provide for and don’t need to spend £400 to £500 at a time.”
