Council chair dies at home

THE chairman of Leith Central Community Council has died suddenly.

It is thought Stewart Blaik, who was a retired British Telecom employee and trade unionist, may have suffered a heart attack at home in Dalmeny Street on Wednesday evening.

He was a founder member of the community council when it was established in 1998 and had been its chairman since then.

Community council secretary Roland Reid said: “I’ve been inundated with messages. It will be an enormous loss, not just to the community council, but to the wider community.”
