Council plans homeless unit

A FORMER care home for people with learning disabilities is set to be turned into temporary homeless accommodation under plans put forward by council chiefs.

Midlothian Council has applied for planning permission to start using the care home in Eastfield Drive, Penicuik, as a house of multiple occupation to provide emergency stays for homeless single adults and adults with their children.

The council is set to buy the two-storey, seven-bedroom property, which is owned by the London-based Daughters of Charity.
