Council unveils Penicuik schools’ merger proposal

Plans to merge Penicuik’s two high schools have been revealed by Midlothian Council.

Parents and the wider community are being formally consulted on the proposals, which have been brought about by falling school rolls at Penicuik and Beeslack Community High Schools.

If the idea of having S1 to S3 at one site and S4 to S6 in the other progresses unopposed by parents, HMIe and the Scottish Government, the merger could take place as early as August 2012.

But senior council officials are stressing that the consultation, which involves a series of public meetings, will not be rushed.
