Councillors aim warning shot at shop with BB guns for sale

A mini-market which was found selling BB guns has been given a warning by councillors.

Best Convenience Store in Gilmerton Dykes was investigated by police after a member of the public discovered the pellet guns were for sale.

The store’s lawyer, Alistair Macdonald, told the city’s licensing board his clients had been talked into buying the guns while at a cash and carry.

Police highlighted a series of difficulties identifying who was the store’s licence holder, listed as Abdul Majeed.

Inspector Gordon Hunter, of the police licensing department, said: “On December 5 police were contacted by a member of the public who reported BB guns were being offered for sale on the premises.”

Mr Macdonald added that his clients had recently replaced the previous managers and restructured the business. Mr Majeed’s daughter would be taking over the running of the business, he added.
