Crackdown on school run drivers

POLICE are set to mount a month-long crackdown on unsafe driving in and around schools in the Lothians.

Officers regularly receive complaints about poor driving in school zones, including inappropriate parking and the unsafe transportation of children during school runs.

Throughout next month, officers will provide a high-visibility presence during “pick up and drop off” times at schools in East Lothian and
Midlothian.

Offending motorists will be spoken to and dealt with accordingly, while any pedestrians found to be putting themselves at risk will be given the necessary advice and
guidance.

Inspector Steven Boyle, from the force’s road policing unit, said: “While we appreciate that the school run can be a chaotic time for parents there can be no excuse for complacency when behind the wheel of a vehicle.”
